On the Brink

“How often on the brink of some discovery

Have we stood tottering, and yet still kept our ground…”?   ~ Thomas Otway

We look over the edge of possibility and we dream. We have the tools at our fingertips to utilize and make the dream a reality, and yet we freeze in our tracks. The “fear” of the unknown venture appears to outweigh the rewards of new territories discovered. Where is the pioneering spirit?

The bold have nothing to lose, or so it seems. We, the little lambs, travel in the ruts that others initiated. We have fallen into the deeply carved mindsets where middle ground is the best ground. The idea and discovery pioneers of old would have turned the page on life with a whimper, if they had quelled the boisterous command of “go!”

The fear speaks loudest right before the breakthrough. Don’t listen to that corrupt voice. Work your dream and take others with you on the new path.

What’s Past has Passed

When people want to be offended with you they will recall your past mistakes/missteps. It will be a remembrance waterfall of “past wrongs and offenses” pouring in your direction. But the past has passed. It is a new day, and each new day must begin with self-forgiveness. Don’t let people who are annoyed with you dictate your future and torment your present. You direct your future by influencing your decisions with healthy thoughts about yourself today. A helpful goal might be to stay away from negative people and personal negative mindsets.

Impression

To grasp beauty is to say that you have captured the air. It may be enclosed, but it does not wholly belong to you.  You only borrow beauty for it is fleeting and finds its solidity by impression.

Yet, those who seek beauty find beauty and are enamored by the impression it leaves. The joy comes when we are able to define the impression.

Redirection

As I journeyed on my course of life –

I looked back to a littered path of broken pieces – hewn away from once cherished dreams.

What were to be the building blocks of an envisioned monument called “beautiful life” now lay strewn, slashed, bashed, and crumbled.

They were fragments from my entangled emotions and botched outlooks.

Decaying gold was all I saw along the road I traveled.

There were no sunny skies of realized passions – no beating, bright, hearts of splendor.

The view was heartbreaking, disconcerting, and unnerving.

I mused upon the forlorn, ashen, disenchanted view and wept.

Yet, in a flash,

A hopeful expectation arose, and my view was redirected.

Now, instead of crumbled debris there was a path that was clear – full of life and light.

I was pushed ahead, farther and faster down the path.

I was maneuvered so deftly away from the brokenness that its remains were nowhere in sight.

My view of the trail behind me and in front of me was clear.

The Light, Power, and Love had moved me away from the evident defeats.
